The typical soldier is equipped with a lot of gear and weapons to help them battle their opponents in war. Here are some examples of what they used.
- Swords- carried by infantrymen and cavalrymen by a belt or a shoulder strap. It is measured to be 94 cm (about 37 inches). There were many types in this sword: straight, curved, one- and two-handed.
- Spears- carried by infantry and cavalrymen. They were about 4-4.5m long with iron points. The purpose for this weapon was for thrusting and throwing.
- Menaulion- made out of corneal saplings and young oak and capped by a long blade measured 45-50cm.
- Maces and Axes- they served as shocker weapons.
- Sling and Bow- used by light soldiers. They were handheld, had a unbend able horn grip.
The Battle of Nineveh was the climactic battle of the Byzantine-Sassanid War of 602–628. TheByzantine victory later resulted in civil war in Persia and for a period of time restored the empire to its ancient boundaries in the Middle East. This resurgence of power and prestige was not to last, however, as within a matter of decades an Arab Caliphate emerged from Arabia and once again brought the empire to the brink of destruction.
